Nepal Tunza Youth Environment (NTYEN) organized National Children’s Painting Competition 2013, for the children of age 6-14 years, from 2-24 February 2013 as a pre-activity of Nepal National Water Week (NNWW) 2013 with the theme “Water is a source of life. Where does it come from?”
The objective of the painting competition was to empower and engage Nepalese children in global level activities. During the event, there were three orientation classes in Kathmandu valley where different schools showed their active participation. Moreover, around 300 schools were approached for the painting competition and an event was created in Facebook. The event was supported by The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) and facilitated by Ms. Kabita Gautam, Mentor of NTYEN and Program Assistant at SEN.
There were 150 entries, among which 33 paintings were sent to the Regional Office of Asia Pacific (ROAP), UNEP in Bangkok, Thailand for the “22nd International Children’s Painting Competition”. The regional winners will be declared on 22 April 2013 and global winners will be announced on 5 June 2013.
On the closing ceremony of NNWW 2013 on 22 March 2013, the national winners were announced and the first, second and third prizes were handed over by the chairperson of the program, Mr. Bishwa Prakash Pandit, Secretary of WECS.

3rd Prize Winner: Kabin Magar (Age-14), Vinayak Sikshya Niketan
2nd Prize Winner: Nisha Gupta (Age-14), Suryodaya School
1st Prize Winner: Ojash Joshi (Age-14), Everest English School
It is first time in Nepal that such type of event was coordinated to engage Nepalese children in UNEP’s activity and NTYEN will continue its efforts for wider participation of Nepalese children in global level events.
