YOUTH MEETS: Workshop on Social Media and Networking

Nepal Tunza Youth Environment Network (NTYEN) had a meeting with its team members on 23rd March,2013 in The Small Earth Nepal (SEN) office at Buddhnagar. The main objectives of the meeting were to introduce NTYEN team with each other and to let them know about UNEP, TUNZA and TUNZA Eco- generation. Similarly, a workshop session on Social Media and Networking was also conducted. All the participants were highly enthusiastic and were eager to learn.
Introduction of the participant
The meeting started with the general introduction of the group members. The meeting was then guided by Mentor Ms. Kabita Gautam. She gave a short introduction about SEN and the activities it has been doing. She explained the participants regarding NTYEN, its vission, mission and objectives. She further explained the rules and regulations that will be followed in NTYEN. She informs,” NTYEN is a youth group which will be free from political motives. The member will be evaluated on the basis of Green Points and Black Points. The member with higher green points will be rewarded while the member with higher black points maybe forced to leave the group.” The meeting was then forwarded learning the expertise of the group members. It was good to learn that the team members had the expertise in a diverse field including writing and editing, youth mobilization, waste management, social media, photography etc.

The participants also got an opportunity to meet the co-chair of Nepal National Water Week 2013, Er. Mahendra Bahadur Gurung. He congratulated all the team members for being selected and encouraged the members to learn from the involvement in different activities. On behalf of TUNZA Eco-generation, Ms. Kabita Gautam handed over the T-shirt to Er. Gurung. Similarly,T-shirt was also handed over to Ms. Gautam by one of the NTYEN team member. Moreover, stationary to all the participants were distributed as a token of love from TUNZA Eco-generation with a commitment that, NTYEN will promote recycled paper and eco-friendly pencil during its meetings instead of using dot pens.
The meeting was then forwarded with a workshop on Social Media and Networking. Ms. Gautam explains,” Today, social media is an effective means to deliver information to a wider range of audience all over the world.” She gave tips to the participants on how to market their ideas and activities through social media and to flow the message to the larger audience.
Overall the meeting was quite fruitful and informative. The participants got an opportunity to learn a lot about UNEP and TUNZA and also learned some skills on social media and networking.
